Q2W offer the CITB SMSTS & SMSTS – R in association with Leyton Orient Football Club. Our training facility is a short walk from Leyton Underground station and local bus routes.
This course is suitable for you if you’re a site manager or considering becoming a site manager. You should also consider this course if you have responsibilities for planning, organising, monitoring, controlling and administering staff.
All relevant legislation affecting the building, construction and civil engineering Industries is covered during the course. It also highlights the need for risk assessment, the implementation of control measures and adequate communication to sustain a health and safety culture in the workforce and endorsed by Build UK as the standard training for all construction managers.
At the end of this course you will be able to:
- Implement all health, safety, welfare and environmental legislation affecting your daily work
- Implement new guidance and Industry best practice
- State your duties and responsibilities with regards to health, safety, welfare and the environment
How is the course assessed?
Your trainer will continuously assess your knowledge and multiple-choice test.
Certification for this course is valid for five years. You should attend an SMSTS Refresher course before the expiry date of your original course to avoid attending a full SMSTS course.

Q2W are a CITB, Approved Training Organisation (ATO) for SSSTS and SSSTS - R.
What is a CITB ATO?
A CITB ATO is an organisation which provides construction training courses and qualifications to a defined and industry-agreed training standard. As an approved ATO, Q2W will upload your SSSTS achievement to trigger an automated grant payment of (subject to eligibility).
How much is the grant?
Training grants are tiered from 1 – 3 according to the duration and content of the course:
- SMSTS is tier 3, which attracts a grant of £120.00
- SMSTS – R is 50% of the tier 3 grant
How do I claim my grant?
You can claim NVQ achievement grants if you’re an employer who is registered with CITB. This includes small employers (wage bill of less than £80k) who don’t have to pay the levy.
